Law and Order

“We had no jails.”

Written by Andy

“Before our white brothers came to civilize us we had no jails. Therefore we had no criminals. You can’t have criminals without a jail. We had no locks or keys, and so we had no thieves. If a man was so poor that he had no horse, tipi or blanket, someone gave him these things. We were to uncivilized to set much value on personal belongings. We wanted to have things only in order to give them away. We had no money, and therefore a man’s worth couldn’t be measured by it. We had no written law, no attorneys or politicians, therefore we couldn’t cheat. We really were in a bad way before the white men came, and I don’t know how we managed to get along without these basic things which, we are told, are absolutely necessary to make a civilized society.”

We do not need criminals to have jail! Really! Maybe some people had no jail because of a lack of infrastructure, or maybe immediate execution/punishment was implemented but certainly not because of a lack of criminals. We will never have a lack of criminals when the heart of man is wicked. Politicians and lawmakers doesn’t make people wicked that’s a choice. Wickedness stems from the mind of every man. This piece sounds like uncivilised people did no wrong. But history and life itself reveals whether one is civilised or uncivilised, people do commit wrong deeds. The question is why people from every nation, tribe, language and culture have thrives, bandits, murderers, liars. oppressors etc.

I don’t think you understand this type of life. There was no need for these things and there will not be when men draw closer to nature. There was no epidemic pandemic and Ill health among them.
